Of the 100 billion garments produced each year, worldwide, 92 million tonnes of it end up in landfills. On average, many garments are only worn 7 to 10 times before being thrown away.
To put things in perspective, this means that the equivalent of a rubbish truck full of clothes ends up on landfill sites every second. In the US alone, 11.3 million tons of textile waste – equivalent to 85% of all textiles – end up in landfills on a yearly basis.
